Israeli attack on school kills at least 32 individuals :
An Israeli attack on school filled with hundreds of displaced people in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least 32 people and injured dozens more, according to sources.
The Israeli military admitted that it attacked the UNRWA school, stating it housed a “Hamas compound.”
It accused the Israeli military of committing a “horrific massacre…that shames humanity.” The Palestinian news agency Wafa said that at least 32 individuals were killed. The Health Ministry provided no quick confirmation, and the death toll could not be independently verified.
Palestinian journalists shared footage on X on Thursday morning, showing wrecked classrooms, bodies laid out at Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, and injured children being treated on the ground.
The Israeli military acknowledged on X that it attacked a United Nations school in Al-Nuseirat, saying it housed Hamas members involved in the October 7 attack on Israel. They said that “terrorists” planning next assaults had been “eliminated” and that “several measures were taken to minimize harm to those not involved.”
The attack on the UNRWA school for Palestinian refugees came after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a new operation against Hamas in central Gaza on Wednesday, killing dozens of Palestinians in airstrikes, according to doctors.
On Wednesday morning, the military announced that forces, backed up by aircraft, had commenced an operation against “terrorists and terrorist infrastructure above and below ground.”
Residents reported intense bombing, and the charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) confirmed that at least 70 dead, including women and children, had been brought to a local hospital since Tuesday.
“When I arrived at the emergency hospital this morning, the scent of blood was intense. People lay on the floor. People were out… The bodies were delivered in white plastic bags. Families supported and prayed for them,” stated MSF medical referent Karin Huster in an audio message.
